2001 PASE Youth Contest a Success

LINCOLN, Neb. — More than 340 Nebraska youth recently competed in the state Premier Animal Science Events contest.

The event, sponsored by Nebraska 4-H and the University of Nebraska's Department of Animal Science, tests students' knowledge in all areas of animal science, including livestock and meat judging.

Champion and reserve champion teams, their members and the top three finishers in individual events were:

Senior Quiz Bowl: Champion team – Boone and Nance counties, Josh VanDeWalle, Cedar Rapids, Adina Choat and Bart Choat, St. Edward and Jennifer Walrath, Primrose. Reserve champion – Central IV – Valley counties, Aaron Hird and Sara Tolle, Litchfield, and Curtis Wray and Vicki Wray, Scotia.

Intermediate Quiz Bowl: Champion team – Boone and Nance counties, Ashley Koch, Petersburg, John Walrath, Primrose, Michelle Prothman, Albion and Eric Frenzen, Fullerton. Reserve champion – Harlan county, Matt Dietz and Terence Dake, Orleans, Courtney Tegtman, Stamford and Ryan Bohl, Oxford.

4-H dairy: Champion team – Cuming and Dodge counties, Mike Guenther, Bancroft, Brett Mowinkel, West Point and Sarah Witte, Scribner. Reserve champion – Cass County, Tiffany Glasshoff, Murdock, Krystal Knabe and Matt Knabe, Nehawka and David McKay, Alvo. Top three individuals: Jennafer Glaesemann, Fairbury, Courtney Braesch, Omaha and Philip Mueller, Hooper.

FFA dairy: Champion team – Thurston County, Brent Svoboda, Jon McQuistan and Lance Allen, all Pender and Michael Stanek, Walthill. Reserve champion – Frontier County, Ashton Rieker, Christina Schroeder, Tristan Lehman and Lauren Gengenbach, all Eustis. Top three individuals: Tyler Schurr and Ashton Rieker, Eustis and Michael Stanek, Walthill.

Meats for consumers: Champion team – Dawson County, Blair Uden, Mike Rickertsen and Jeff Stenberg, all Lexington and Helen Hecox, Gothenburg. Reserve champion – Dawson County, Clark McPheeters and Shane Max, Gothenburg and Keli Margritz, Lexington. Top three individuals: Mike Rickertsen, Blair Uden and Jeff Stanberg, all Lexington.

Senior poultry: Champion team – South Central Six counties, Rebecca Heilman and Sarah Mohlman, Hastings and Elysabeth Rehtus, Guide Rock. Reserve champion – Washington County, Andrew Buker, Diane Seaver and Herb Christensen, all Ft. Calhoun. Top three individuals: Valerie Rahrs, Marquette, Rachel Diedrichsen, Hooper and Diane Seaver, Ft. Calhoun.

Intermediate poultry: No teams competed. Top three individuals: Calvin Rahrs, Marquette, Mary Lou Andrews, Hampton and Kaitlyn Petrmichl, Bellevue.

Senior livestock judging: Champion team – Lincoln County, Jackie Snyder and Angie Miller, North Platte, and Jennifer Albrecht and Amanda Albrecht, Tryon. Reserve champion – Chase County, Abby Barger, Wauneta, Brandon Kuenning and Geoff Beemer, Imperial and Leah Rundback, Palisade. Top three individuals: Cody Bobinmeyer, Culbertson, Matt Wolfe, Indianola and Lance Manker, Indianola.

Intermediate livestock judging: Champion team – Washington County, Jake Hoffschneider and Krista Rasmussen, Arlington and Lance Peterson, Herman. Reserve champion – Dawson County, Tyler Pieper and Will Craig, Farnam, Jennifer Frerichs, Sumner and Keli Margritz, Lexington. Top three individuals: Tyler Pieper, Farnam, Jake Hoffschneider, Arlington and Luke Coufal, David City.
