Landscape Workshops to Focus on Drought's Impact
LINCOLN, Neb. — Drought's impact on landscapes is the focus for a series of workshops Sept. 18-23 at four sites across the state.
"Watering has been the primary concern for anyone working with public gardens this summer," said Justin Evertson, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum assistant director for community programs.
Because of that, Evertson has tailored the 2003 landscape workshops to deal with issues like plant selection for sustainability, design and maintenance strategies, sources for funding and technical assistance. Tours of hardy, undemanding landscapes will be part of the workshop.
The free workshops are designed for anyone interested in developing and maintaining landscapes, including managers and landscape personnel of parks, schools, business campuses, golf courses, college campuses, fairgrounds and other public facilities; acreage owners; landscape designers; and nursery professionals.
They are sponsored by the arboretum and Nebraska Forest Service.
The workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The schedule:
— Sept. 18 in Pierce, City Hall
— Sept. 19 in Kearney, Harmon Park
— Sept. 20 in Omaha, Douglas County Extension Office
— Sept. 23 in Scottsbluff, Panhandle Research and Extension Center
To register, contact Evertson at (402)472-5045 or e-mail evertson1@unl.edu. More information is available at Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
The arboretum, a statewide network of 58 affiliate sites including arboreta, historic landscapes, parks and other public gardens, is part of the University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
