March 17 Expo Focuses on Managing Water Resources
LINCOLN, Neb. — Acreage owners can learn to manage water resources during the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension's 2007 Acreage Owners Expo March 17.
The 9 a.m.-3 p.m. expo will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m at the August N. Christensen Research and Education Building at the Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead. Concurrent workshops will be offered continuously throughout the day.
Sessions will emphasize protecting and conserving groundwater as well as managing private drinking water systems. The expo coincides with National Ground Water Awareness Week, March 11-17.
Topics include: understanding water resources, such as watersheds, ground water and surface water; water contaminants, testing and treatment; septic system operations and maintenance; native grasses and wildflowers; pond design; rain gardens and bioswales; woody plant selection; and turf management.
Concurrent and general sessions include:
9-9:45 a.m. program is: Drought.
10-10:45 a.m. programs are: Prairie Grass and Wildflowers or Rain Gardens.
10:45-11:30 a.m. programs are: Woody Landscape Plant Selection or Turf Management.
12:30-1:15 p.m. program is: Water Resources.
1:30-2:15 p.m. programs are: Drinking Water Quality or Septic System Operation and Maintenance.
2:15-3:00 p.m. programs are: Water Treatment or Pond Design.
Cost is $25 before March 9 and $35 after or at the door.
