Irrigation and Energy Conservation Field Day Offered at North Platte
LINCOLN, Neb. — A Sept. 6 Irrigation and Energy Conservation Field Day at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's West Central Research and Extension Center at North Platte will help producers save water and money.
The program, sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association in partnership with UNL Extension, starts with 8:30 a.m. registration with training from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Limited registrations will be accepted up to Aug. 29.
Participants will learn best management practices for corn production, achieve water conservation in irrigated and dryland corn production, learn how to reduce energy use production costs, find how to maintain and, in some cases, increase yield and profitability and learn to better manage surface and groundwater irrigation.
Presentations and presenters include: Agricultural Water Management, Suat Irmak, UNL Extension water resources engineer, and Gary Zoubek, UNL Extension educator; Corn Production with High Irrigation Costs and Limited Water, Steve Melvin, UNL Extension irrigation educator and Simon van Donk, UNL irrigation/water resources specialist, West Central Research and Extension Center; Pumping Plant Performance Criteria, Derrel Martin, UNL Extension irrigation and water resources specialist; Subsurface Drip Irrigation in Nebraska, Dean Yonts, UNL Extension irrigation engineer, Panhandle Research and Extension Center; Sprinkler Package Selection Above and In-Canopy Demonstration, Bill Kranz, UNL Extension irrigation specialist, Northeast Research and Extension Center; Update on NRD Integrated Water Management Plans, Kent Miller, general manager, Twin Platte NRD; and Water Supply and Management Issues, Martin.
The complementary registration fee is provided in part through funding by the Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association. Certified Crop Advisor credits are available.
