Horsin' Around Conference to Host Western Pleasure Horse Training Team
LINCOLN, Neb. — Bill and Tina Kaven will be the featured trainers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's annual Horsin' Around Conference Feb. 9-10.
The event will be held at the RB Warren Arena in the Animal Science Complex on UNL's East Campus. Preregistration opens Jan. 2 and closes Feb. 1. Registration is limited to the first 450 paid registrants and events have sold out in previous years.
The Kavens have dominated the Western Pleasure industry throughout the past decade. Tina holds the distinction of being the highest money earning open Western Pleasure division female trainer in the National Snaffle Bit Association and recently earned the $100,000 check at the 2007, 2-year-old Masters Western Pleasure class on Good Luck Girl. Bill's watchful eye and hours of solidifying the foundation in Tina's horses has helped her claim many other championships, including the Western Pleasure World Champion title in 2003 and Reserve World Champion titles in 1999, 2002 and 2005.
The conference also will include presentations from Tom Kirshenbaum and Kathy Anderson. Kirshenbaum, a lifelong equine competitor, will discuss the latest trends and show how to dress and prepare a horse to catch the judge's eye. Anderson, associate professor and extension horse specialist at UNL, teaches equine courses, oversees the 4-H horse program and judges for various professional organizations
The clinic is open to participants of all ages. Adult registration is $25 for the weekend or $15 for one day. For youth 18 and under, registration is $15 for both days or $10 for one. If the clinic doesn't sell out, adult registration will be available at the door for $35 for the weekend and $20 for one day. Youth registration at the door will be $25 for the weekend and $15 for one day. Seating will be assigned by section on a first-come, first-served basis.
