Swine Seminar Gives Reproduction Information

LINCOLN, Neb. — A June 10 Advanced Swine Reproduction Seminar will offer pork producers insight on reproduction management.

The seminar, at the Marina Inn in South Sioux City, is geared toward producers interested in learning more about new technology and management methods to achieve a high and efficient sow reproductive rate, said Don Levis, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension swine specialist at the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory near Concord. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the seminar begins at 10 a.m.

Topics and keynote speakers include: trouble shooting breeding performance and on-site semen management by Bill Flowers, professor, North Carolina State University and reproductive herd performance tips that enhance economics return by Levis. Dave Stender, swine field specialist, Iowa State University Extension, will talk about various ideas to strategically cut output with a reasonable probability to benefit the herd and industry. Flowers and Levis will conclude the seminar with a swine reproduction question and answer panel at 2:30 p.m.

The conference is sponsored by UNL and ISU Extension, the Iowa Pork Industry Center, Iowa Pork Producer Association and Nebraska Pork Producers Association.

Registration is $25 and includes a pork loin lunch. To ensure having a lunch ticket, register by June 5. The seminar has been subsidized by the sponsors to keep the registration fee low.
