Arboretum Tours in Brownville, Peru and Falls City

BROWNVILLE, Neb. — The Furnas Arboretum in Brownville will host garden tours June 12 and 14.

The June 14 tour of the arboretum at Fifth and Main streets is from 2-4 p.m. and also includes self-guided tours of four private gardens, the first two of which are within easy walking distance of the arboretum:

Whiskey Run Creek Winery, 702 Main St.

River Bluff Nursery, 103 East Water St.

Don and Margaret Hoffmeyer Home, 1030 Main St.

Bob and Melva Sage Home, 648A Avenue and 72877 Drive (Nuclear Plant Road)

Curator John Lauber said, "This year one of the highlights is River Bluff Nursery, a new Brownville business located on Water Street that specializes in groundcovers, perennials, annuals, grasses, shrubs and trees."

On June 12 three southeast arboretums affiliated with the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum will host tours throughout the day. Peru State College Arboretum will host a tour from 9-11 a.m.; Furnas Arboretum, with more than 100 species of trees and shrubs, from noon until 2 p.m.; and Falls City's Itha Krumme Arboretum from 3-5 p.m., with a plant sale from 4-5:30 p.m.
