All Things Nebraska, an online platform developed by Nebraska Extension, has launched the Community Assets Repository to compile the priorities and aspirations of communities, agencies and organizations across Nebraska.
By bringing together community strategic plans, needs assessments and listening session reports in one searchable webpage, the Community Assets Repository reveals patterns among regional and county data — pinpointing shared priorities for Nebraskans that are easily navigable by category, keyword or location. Available to the general public, the repository opens doors for new partnerships between communities and the university, and supports decision-makers as they determine where to strategically invest resources.
“The end goal is that the university can more systematically tackle the work that Nebraskans have identified,” said Jentry Barrett, Nebraska Extension campus engagement zone coordinator and co-director of All Things Nebraska. “This tool makes it much easier for faculty, staff and postdoctoral researchers, and students to understand the work that our communities are engaging in so they can come alongside them with resources. It allows UNL to be more intentional about organizing our teaching, research, Extension and partnerships around the priorities communities have already identified."
The repository is available on the All Things Nebraska website and houses over 200 resources in categories like “Governance & Policy” and “Economy & Workforce.” Users can quickly filter reports by interacting with the map or searching by category. The Community Assets Repository is the newest addition to the UNL Community Engagement Ecosystem and supports its first of four goals:
- Identify and steward community information
- Make UNL community resources easy to access and determine how they can contribute to community priorities, if desired
- Create and strengthen partnerships between UNL and Nebraska communities to address the most important work
- Showcase successful collaboration
Each goal is addressed by at least one tool in the ecosystem, and together, they create a synergistic approach to address Nebraska’s most important challenges. All the online tools in the Community Engagement Ecosystem can be accessed through UNL’s Community Engagement website.
