Five students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s PGA Golf Management program are among 20 students nationwide who have earned a scholarship through the PGA WORKS John and Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program.
The $8,000 scholarships were presented to students working toward PGA of America membership through one of 16 accredited PGA Golf Management university programs across the nation.
“We’re incredibly proud of these students and the accomplishments that earned them this scholarship,” said Joseph Canny, assistant professor of practice in Nebraska’s program. “Having five of the 20 recipients come from Nebraska speaks to the strength of our PGA Golf Management program and, more importantly, to the quality of the students who are part of it. We’re honored that they’re recognized with some of the country’s top talent.”
Scholarship recipients at Nebraska, listed alphabetically by hometown with their year in school, are:

PGA WORKS is a strategic workforce initiative designed to provide equal opportunity to a robust pool of students from a wide range of backgrounds who are prepared to ascend to key employment positions in the industry. Scholarship recipients must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a golf-related major, with the goal of obtaining PGA of America membership. Since its inception in 2018, 138 PGA WORKS scholarships have been awarded, totaling $1.1 million.
The PGA Golf Management program at Nebraska began in 2002 as a specialized curriculum in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. About 280 students are currently enrolled in the program.
“Our ongoing collaboration with John and Tamara Lundgren continues to create transformative opportunities for future leaders,” said Scott Kmiec, executive director of the PGA of America REACH Foundation. “We are incredibly appreciative of the Lundgrens for investing in these driven students, strengthening the foundation of our association and ensuring the game continues to grow, innovate and thrive.”
Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic record, leadership in school and community activities, honors and work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unique personal or family circumstances, an outside appraisal, active participation in the game and playing ability.
