Lincoln, Neb. —The University of Nebraska is reminding students, faculty, staff, and friends and supporters that they are invited to the third annual “I Love NU” Day, scheduled for March 10 at the Nebraska State Capitol.
The event is an opportunity for individuals to show support for the university and visit with state senators about the work and impact of NU’s campuses. All members of the public are welcome.
The day will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol’s Hearing Room 1525 with welcoming remarks from university and legislative leadership. All four University of Nebraska student regents – Emily Johnson of UNL, Aya Yousuf of UNO, Nicole Kent of UNK and Keith Ozanne of UNMC – will speak, as will NU system President Ted Carter. Speaker of the Legislature Jim Scheer of Norfolk and Lincoln Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks also will make remarks.
Following opening remarks, “I Love NU” Day attendees will gather in the legislative chamber balcony to be recognized by the Legislature, then will have time to speak with senators in the Rotunda, engage with other university supporters or listen to legislative debate. The event will conclude at 3:30 p.m.
New this year will be a “University Unity” ice cream flavor created by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Dairy Store: vanilla ice cream with a red strawberry swirl, dark chocolate chips and blue marshmallows. Two hundred cups of University Unity will be for sale outside the Capitol on the day of the event.

For UNK attendees, the bus will leave the Nebraskan Student Union at 11 a.m. Students, faculty and staff may contact John Falconer, senior advisor to the chancellor, with transportation questions at falconerj@unk.edu.
For UNO attendees, the bus will leave from Mammel Hall at noon. The bus will then stop at the College of Pharmacy at approximately 12:15 p.m. to pick up UNMC attendees. Faculty and staff who attend the event during regular work hours should use vacation or banked/floating holiday time and must receive approval for time off from a supervisor.
Besides attending “I Love NU” Day, faculty, staff and students can show support for the university by reaching out to state senators via letter, email or phone to discuss the importance of higher education. Supporters are also invited to sign up to become an NU Advocate to learn about legislative developments that impact the university.
