About Taro Mieno:
I received my Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. My research focuses on the economics of precision agriculture and water use management in irrigated agriculture. I'm actively looking for collaborators from other departments to do interdisciplinary research on precision agriculture.

What is your position at UNL?
Assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics

What drew you to UNL?
I was drawn to UNL by the excellent collaboration opportunities with faculty members in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Department of Biological Systems Engineering and the School of Natural Resources. I also was encouraged by the strong  extension services that work closely with farmers to implement on-farm research, which provides essential data for economic analysis of precision agriculture.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I have extensive and deep knowledge of statistics for economic applications; econometrics.

I love watching and playing sports. I especially like watching Major League Baseball. I do not  have a favorite team in particular, but I root for Japanese players.

I like to play badminton. I won several tournaments that took place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign while I was completing my Ph.D.

What is your life like outside of work?
Outside of work, most of my leisure time is spent with my wife and 2-year-old son. One of our favorite activities is to walk or bike at Holmes Lake Park.
