What is your position at the University of Nebraska?

Recruitment coordinator for the School of Natural Resources

What drew you to the University of Nebraska?

I graduated from the university with a degree in fisheries and wildlife in 2009 and worked as a student ambassador as an undergraduate. Over the years I stayed in touch with the faculty and staff, and was very excited when a recruiting position opened.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

I love meeting current and prospective students who are passionate about the same things I am. The best is when I meet high school students who never realized that natural resources is something they could not only major in, but make a career out of.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Taking this position with SNR. It felt like I was coming home. It’s great being able to show students that you can get a job with your degree. I worked for a company that specializes in wildlife damage management for three years, then moved on to work in the education department at one of the best zoos in the world, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. If it weren’t for the fact that I love meeting students and helping them turn their passions into a career, I probably would never have left the zoo. Oh, and I’ve scooped up the poo of two different species of rhino in one day, that’s a pretty big achievement in itself.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I’m a pretty open book. I would say the fact that I was a pretty big choir and drama nerd in high school isn’t widely known. I still sing, but it’s usually when I’m in the car or home alone and it may or may not be on key.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy biking to go get waffles, hiking at Wilderness Park or Indian Caves, cooking and binge watching Netflix.
