Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska?

My mom attended the University of Nebraska, and growing up we made frequent trips to Lincoln to visit family. I was familiar with the campus and loved the vibe of East Campus especially. Being from out-of-state, I was excited about having the opportunity to make new friends and start a new network. The thought of attending Husker football games helped too!  I've often been asked if I wish I would have attended college in Kansas, and I don't regret it for a second.  The University of Nebraska has offered me many unique opportunities and I believe that I am getting one of the best educations offered in my degree program.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska?

My favorite thing about the University of Nebraska is the atmosphere of CASNR. I've loved the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources since I moved into Burr Hall my freshman year. I didn't know anyone when I got here, but I made friends who have pushed and supported me since day one. The faculty and staff truly care about their students and push us to be better every day, while having fun along the way!  East Campus has the feel of a small town with the perks of a Big 10 university.  Everyone is always smiling and eager to ask about your day. It's become my home away from home.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

I've taken many great classes in my time here, but my favorite class that I have taken so far is Farm and Ranch Management (AECN 201) with Dr. Hanson. It was very practical for me as a future teacher and producer. We covered everything from decision-making processes to economic factors influencing production. I think I'll be pulling this book out regularly throughout the rest of my life. Dr. Hanson took a class that many see as difficult and taught it in a interesting way that really resonated with me.

What are your plans post-graduation?

After graduation I hope to be involved in teaching agriculture in some way. I can see myself either being a high school agriculture instructor and FFA advisor or being an advocate for the industry. My passion has always been to educate people about where their food comes from and I hope that my career path will help me reach as many people as possible. Also, after graduating and gaining some capital, I hope to go into the cattle business with my parents.

What’s life like outside of school?

Outside of classwork I serve as an ambassador for CASNR and am an undergraduate assistant in the Plant Pathology lab. Both of these opportunities have given me an even more in-depth look at aspects of agriculture that I wasn't as familiar with. As an ambassador I've really enjoyed getting to know the next generation of CASNR students through recruitment events. I also love to spend time with my friends, going to concerts, and watching movies. I take every opportunity possible to drive home and spend time with my family and go horseback riding.  I'm so thankful for the support I've had from my family, friends, and the University of Nebraska in my journey through college, and I'm very excited to see what the next page of life will be!
