Brownville Arboretum Garden Tour June 10

BROWNVILLE, Neb. — Tree planting and landscape design demonstrations are part of "A Walk in the Garden," a June 10 tour of Governor Furnas Arboretum and neighboring gardens here.

The arboretum tour and demonstrations of tree planting and landscape designs will be 10–11:30 a.m. Tours of four private gardens are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The gardens include collections of roses, vines, shrubs and old-fashioned plants, many of them planted into terraces or raised beds.

Refreshments are available at 9:30 a.m. at the arboretum, in the center of Brownville, just off Main Street; and 12:30 p.m., on the lawn of the historic Brownville Concert Hall, a historic church moved to the site from Peru. An old schoolhouse on the site has been turned into an art gallery, which will be open for viewing that day.

More than 100 species of trees and shrubs make up the grounds of the arboretum. The Governor Furnas Arboretum became an affiliate site of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum (NSA) in 1996. NSA representatives will be available to answer questions about the gardens.

For more information about the arboretum or the garden tours, contact Curator John Lauber at (402)489-6333.

The tour is hosted by the Brownville Fine Arts Association, the Governor Furnas Arboretum and NSA.

The NSA is a horticultural organization headquartered at the University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. For more information about NSA or other gardening-related news, call (402)472-2971 or visit the Arboretum Web site.
