The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Block and Bridle’s annual steak fry is a perfect way to honor the Beef State. On Sept. 19, the club hosted its longstanding tradition of more than 60 years, bringing together students, faculty and friends.

The event is more than just a meal; with faculty support, the students can step away from the classroom and connect with their professors through the kind of food Nebraska is known for — beef.

“Steak Fry is a fun and inexpensive way to interact with your peers,” said Elsie Woerner, the Block and Bridle marshal.

As the first fundraiser and event of the new school year, the steak fry gives returning members a chance to reconnect while also giving new members and freshmen a glimpse of what Block and Bridle is all about.

This year’s steak fry was made possible through generous sponsors, including Cargill, Nebraska Beef Council, the American Gelbvieh Association and Lone Creek Cattle Company. Their contributions help keep the event affordable for students.

“Along with steak fry being one of our largest fundraisers for the year, it’s just as important for the way it connects our members with faculty, staff and alumni who support Block and Bridle year after year,” said current President Greg Treffer.
