The International Quilt Museum will host "Weaving Together Our Common Threads: Juneteenth Reflections" with artists Chawne Kimber and Celeste Butler, 5:30-7 p.m. June 20 in the museum's reception hall.
Kimber and Butler will discuss their textile art, life experiences and hopes for the future. This event is free, and refreshments will be provided.
Kimber’s quilts have been displayed at Michigan State University and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art as well as the IQM. She is a provost and math professor at a university in California and is also a member of the museum's advisory board.
Butler is an Omaha-based artist who has been featured in the Washington Post, We Don’t Coast and Omaha Inspired Living. She has led quilting workshops and taught at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.
The IQM is located at 1523 N. 33rd Street on UNL’s East Campus. Founded in 1997 by a generous donation of nearly 1,000 quilts, the museum now houses more than 11,000 quilts and quilt related objects — the largest, publicly held quilt collection in the world.
