Two University of Nebraska–Lincoln students have been honored through the 2025 Certified Angus Beef® Colvin Scholarship Fund, joining 27 recipients nationwide who received a total of $100,000 to support their academic and professional journeys in agriculture.

  • Lance Jones, a junior majoring in animal science and agricultural economics from Stapleton, Nebraska, earned a $6,000 Production Agriculture Award, recognizing his dedication to beef production at his family’s Sandhills commercial operation.
  • Shelley Curry, a graduate student in animal science from Kennard, Texas, received a $2,000 Graduate Award for her research excellence and continued commitment to advancing the beef industry.

“Seeing these students pursue their passions in agriculture is truly inspiring,” said Danielle Matter, CAB director of content strategy. “Each scholarship recipient is not only talented and driven but also represents the innovation, leadership and dedication that will shape the future of the beef industry.”

Both Jones and Curry are students in UNL’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR), part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. CASNR prepares students for leadership across agriculture, food, natural resources, and communities, and was recently ranked among the Top 10% worldwide in Agriculture & Forestry in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Since its inception in 2002, the Colvin Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $733,500 to 203 students, honoring the legacy of Louis “Mick” Colvin, CAB’s co-founder and longtime executive director. The program celebrates students whose work reflects innovation, leadership and dedication to the beef industry.
