Please describe your big idea in a few sentences.

My Change Maker idea is implementing share shelters that would be a place where restaurants can take food that has been prepared that might not meet the standards of the restaurant anymore, but are still safe to consumer to a shelter that people who are in need of a meal are able to attend.

What impact do you want to have on the world?

I want to be able to be a change maker and allow all people to have a meal, and limit food waste. From working in food service, I know that not all the food prepared is used, so being able to not waste that food and give it to someone in need is so important to me.

How has the Change Maker scholarship and CASNR community helped you discover your passion and grow your skills?

This scholarship and the CASNR community have greatly impacted my life by showing me my passions in making this world a better place by finding ways to limit food waste and also showing me my strengths of communication and work ethic in getting this project underway.

How has your mentor/mentors shared your experience thus far?

My mentor has been extremely helpful in this process! She has given me excellent resources to reach out to and has given me a great local insight on the food waste management programs there are here in Lincoln.

What advice would you have for someone who is not sure if they should apply/if their idea is big enough?

My advice would be to definitely apply! If I’m being honest, I made a last-minute decision to apply, but it definitely was the best decision and has allowed me to grow as a person and see my strengths in a different perspective. No idea is too small because all ideas have the potential of changing the world, so don’t limit yourself because all people have the potential of being change makers!
