Lincoln, Neb. —After nearly a year of construction, significant process has been made on the efforts to revitalize Legacy Meadows on East Campus.

Legacy Meadows is an open space between the Nebraska East Union, Massengale Residential Center, Dinsdale Family Learning Commons and the UNL Dairy Store. Last fall, construction began on a project aimed at enhancing the space. Plans call for the addition of outdoor seating and performance areas, terraced landscaping, updated walkways that improve ADA accessibility and additional lighting, among other upgrades.

Numerous elements of the project, including a new loading dock at the Nebraska East Union, and a bus cutout just south of the Agricultural Communications Building, are already complete. A new patio on the northwest corner of the UNL Dairy Store will be finished in the coming weeks. Sod is about to be laid between the Ag Communications Building and Filley Hall, and trees will be planted across Legacy Meadows this week and next. Fencing around areas where earth work and sidewalks have been completed has been moved to open up additional pathways across the campus.

Additionally, statues of four Nebraskans who served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture that were removed during construction are being reinstalled on campus. The base for the statue of George W. Beadle near Dinsdale Family Learning Commons will be modified to match the new pedestal bases of the other statues.

An updated south entrance to the Nebraska East Union will also be constructed in the near future.
