Lincoln, Neb. — Construction began Nov. 3 on renovations to the Legacy Plaza Meadow on East Campus, an open space bordered by the Nebraska East Union, Massengale Residential Center, Dinsdale Family Learning Commons and the UNL Dairy Store.
During the construction period, pedestrian traffic near the Nebraska East Union, Massengale Residential Center, Dinsdale Family Learning Commons, and the UNL Dairy Store will be affected. The contractor has placed fencing and signage around the construction area which clearly indicates construction areas, do not enter any portion of the construction entrance without authorization. Portions of walkways and building entrances will be inaccessible for all or part of the construction period including some building exits that will be for emergency egress only. Please locate doorway signage on affected entrances and exits which indicate closed walkways and alternate routes. For your safety, please stay vigilant of construction equipment traffic and inaccessible portions of Legacy Plaza.
Plans for the renovated greenspace include the addition of outdoor seating and performance areas, terraced landscaping, updated walkways that improve ADA accessibility, additional lighting, and construction of a small parking lot to increase public access to East Campus’s public spaces, including Maxwell Arboretum and the UNL Dairy Store.
The goal is the make the space more inviting and accessible to East Campus students, faculty and staff and visitors.
