Lincoln, Neb. — Dr. Fred Gould, member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and co-Director of the Genetic Engineering and Society Center at North Carolina State University, will give a Zoom seminar for University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty, staff and students on April 13.
The seminar, titled Gene Drive for Pest Management, will take place at 11 a.m. CST. The Zoom link is https://unl.zoom.us/j/91360510536 and the password is UNLbeetles.
Dr. Gould is a University Distinguished Professor and William Neal Reynolds Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University. He is a gifted communicator and thinker and has had a distinguished career studying and modeling insect population genetics and plant resistance to insects, impacts of genetically engineered crops, and most recently has been researching strategies for deploying genetic manipulations of mosquitoes to manage vector-borne diseases of humans. This recent work has also delved into gene drive technologies and modeling. Dr. Gould has published numerous significant works (including chairing the committee and leading the National Academy’s important 2016 report “Genetically Engineered Crops: Experiences and Prospects”) and has been well-funded by numerous federal (NSF, USDA, NIH) and other sources.
