About Christina

I work in the Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication Department. I started my journey with the University of Nebraska with Nebraska Extension in 2014, then took a quick break with the State of Nebraska and returned to UNL in my current role in August 2018. I have worked in my current position for two and a half years. I am passionate about being an advocate for staff here at UNL. I am currently a member of the IANR Staff Council, President-Elect for UNOPA and am on the Steering Committee for the UNL All Staff Conference.

I have been married to my college sweetheart, Darren, for 20 years this May. We have an amazing son Joel who is 7. He keeps us laughing with his witty sense of humor and larger than life imagination. Darren and I serve at our church in the preschool area as teachers to 3 to 5-year-old children. It is so rewarding serving this age group. Although, if you meet me outside of work, I will most likely smell like goldfish and need a strong coffee.

What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I am the office associate and assistant to the ALEC Department head.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

The culture of the university initially drew me in and it is what brought me back. UNL is a place where growth is encouraged and that is what we need to be successful in life.

What aspect of working in an education setting do you enjoy the most?

There are so many things! I love interacting with students as they keep me feeling young and faculty who amaze me with all of the things they know, teach and are researching. However, the number one for me is working with staff. I love having a network of peers that have each other’s back and will help each other to get the job done. There are so many talented and genuine staff members who do amazing work every day and often go unnoticed.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Oh man. Now come the tough questions. My greatest achievement is trying every day to connect with each person I interact with and show them kindness. I would also say raising a son with my spouse who is so amazing at this and seeing that really taking hold.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I am pretty open about everything, just ask the staff in our department! I think maybe something others might not know about me is that I spent a summer teaching English in China. It was one of the most formative experiences of my life.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work, I hang out with my family, love Jesus by hanging out with preschoolers and watch our kiddo play baseball and football. My little family loves to go to parks and zoos!
