Lincoln, Neb. —The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resource is hosting a free, virtual screening of the documentary film “Picture a Scientist” for any interested faculty, staff, students and partners.

“Picture a Scientist” chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.

“Picture a Scientist” was an official selection of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.

Today is the final day to view the film. If you did not register but would still like to receive a link to the film, please email Anna Lowe at alowe12@unl.edu. A panel discussion about the film will take place, today, Feb. 25 from 3:30-4:30 p.m (CST). Click here to attend the panel discussion.

“While we have made great strides in gender equity, women in STEM and other research fields still face bias and discrimination,” said Rich Bischoff, IANR associate vice chancellor for faculty and academic leader success. “If we are going to move toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive IANR where every person and every interaction truly matters, it is critical that we listen carefully to the experiences of female researchers, and that we find ways to address those issues that negatively affect their experience.”

All members of the IANR community are strongly encouraged to view the film.
