Haverkamp receives Outstanding Employee Award

East Campus pillars at enterance

Mary Jo Haverkamp, personnel associate for the HAPPI Business Center, has received the 2013 Third Quarter Outstanding Employee Award. Haverkamp, a UNL employee since 1981, currently works through new hire, payroll and time sheets, leave requests and temporary appointments. Through her consistent and impeccable work, 468 employees are paid correctly and on time; this includes processing time sheets for 237 student and hourly workers each week. Nominators wrote that since the inception of the business center in 2001, Haverkamp has met every payroll deadline without complaint, even if it means coming in during holidays.

Her sound judgment and thorough knowledge of payroll, paid leaves, work-study, etc., have a positive and immediate impact on employees, saving time and resources in having the work done correctly the first time.

Each day Haverkamp is a positive example in getting her work done under finite deadlines. “If it’s part of her job or not, she will get it done … she can and will handle it, both timely and accurately,” wrote one nominator. Haverkamp is “extremely approachable and friendly in assisting employees in questions and concerns,” wrote another, and if she doesn’t know the answer she takes it upon herself to investigate and solve the issue.

Award recipients receive cash awards and certificates. Application materials for these and other IANR awards are at ianr.unl.edu/staff-awards.
