Lincoln, Neb. —Elizabeth Karnopp, a junior biochemistry major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is among 10 university students from across the United States to be named a 2022 Seaboard Royal Scholar.

The Seaboard Royal Scholars program is a competitive scholarship program for students majoring in agriculture, food, natural resources or related disciplines and have a grade point average of at least 3.0. Applicants for the program complete an application and interview with the scholarship committee.

“Elizabeth is an outstanding student and is so deserving of this prestigious and competitive award,” said Tiffany Heng-Moss, dean of UNL’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. “It is wonderful that the Seaboard Royal Scholars program has recognized her talent and hard work.”

Karnopp was also among the recipients of the competitive CASNR ChangeMaker Scholarship program, which was launched by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in 2020. The ChangeMaker program challenges students to submit a video pitch explaining an original idea to address a global issue related to food, water, energy and societal systems. Winning students are then paired with faculty mentors to help make their idea a reality. Karnopp pitched developing a curriculum to teach high school students about the many uses of plants, as well as the careers in which those uses could be applied. Karnopp is originally from Oakland, Nebraska.
