East Campus pillars at enterance

As assistant director for the Agricultural Research and Development Center and business manager for the Greater Nebraska Business Center, Ruby Urban has one of the most challenging roles within IANR. The NU Board of Regents KUDOS Award recipient for March is responsible for implementing and coordinating business functions, planning for financial management and processing human resource needs.

Urban does things well, in the right way and on time. “She understands effective communication and provides the correct amount of information to keep others informed … and positively and proactively identifies and implements solutions,” said one supporter. She is balanced and logical, effective in engaging others, understands the big picture, fosters a positive and enjoyable working environment, clearly defines expectations, and provides resources and encouragement for her staff to be successful. “Her tenacity at problem-solving, her technology skills, ability to handle multiple projects, and her ever-positive attitude for meeting client needs are among her many strong assets,” wrote another. Other comments include, “Everyone gets the same level of customer service and respectful treatment when they come to Ruby.” And, “She will ask the necessary questions until she gets the proper resolution for the customer … she has a knack for seeing both sides of a conflict and working to find a workable compromise.”

Urban has been in this position since July 2010, having joined the university in July 1992.

Award recipients receive cash awards and certificates. Application materials for these and other IANR awards are at http://ianr.unl.edu/staff-awards.
