Meet a Husker: Jadyn Fleischman

Meet Jadyn Fleischman, a senior ag business major at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Hometown: Herman, Nebraska

Major: Agribusiness

Anticipated Date of Graduation: May 2024

Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

Ultimately, the deciding factor to come to the university was the Engler program and how close I would be to home. Coming to Lincoln, I had no clue what Engler would end up meaning to me and the connections I would make that I would not trade for the world.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

The Engler and East Campus community are my favorite part of the university. Nothing will beat these people!

What about diversity and inclusion? Is it necessary to you when you think about your CASNR experience?

I think diversity and inclusion is necessary for my CASNR experience. Whether you are in class or see people on campus, it is really a great experience to hear other people's stories and make sure everyone is welcomed.

Exposure to cultural differences is a huge part of college. What activity have you recently participated in that is different from what you are used to in your culture? This could be something you read, listened to, watched, eaten or otherwise taken part in. What did you learn from this activity?

Recently, the Engler Program visited the New England area, and I was lucky enough to go on the trip with them. It was valuable to hear from business owners and learn about the history of the coast. I found the difference in culture between the Midwest and East Coast interesting.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

My favorite class was family business management with Tom Field because it is so valuable for anyone involved in a family business. Tom discusses how to have hard conversations, the culture of any business you work in, and really makes you think about the value of relationships when you consider where you fit best in an operation.

What are your plans for post-graduation?

I don't exactly know yet, but I will work in the ag industry in some way.

What's life like outside of school?

Outside of school, I love to stay busy with rodeo, serve as an ambassador for the Ag Sack Lunch Program, helping others, and working within my passion in the ag industry.

What scholarships, if any, have you received?

I am very fortunate to have a few scholarships through the university and a great foundation from my alma mater in high school.
