Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

When it came time to decide where to go UNL was on the top of my list for numerous reasons. CASNR has always had a great reputation for high quality opportunities for its students at an affordable cost. I had also been on campus quite a bit throughout my FFA career in high school, so naturally I felt comfortable with the campus and people here. Most importantly though, I’ve always wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps of being within the agricultural industry and going to college, so when I found out he had graduated from UNL, it really was an easy decision.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I really enjoyed how much flexibility I’ve had within my degree. Yes, there are classes that I have to take, but my adviser has gone above and beyond to help me find courses to fill my schedule that I truly enjoyed and found interesting.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

This might sound crazy coming from a small town country boy, but my favorite class had to be the introduction to theatre class I took last semester. I’ve always had an appreciation for the arts, and it was awesome to be able to have the opportunity to see performances by my fellow classmates. I think it also is a testament to how diverse the college is and how it encourages students to branch out from one specific area and experience new ideas and things while here at UNL.

What are your plans post-graduation?

I have recently accepted a full-time position with Ardent Mills in its Leadership Development Program at the Omaha South location. While in school I was a TeamMates mentor during the school week. Once I move to Omaha I am looking forward to volunteering with Big Brother Big Sister, as it will fit my schedule better. On a personal note I am recently engaged and am looking forward to getting married next July.

What’s life like outside of school?

Throughout my time here I have been fairly active outside of the classroom. I am a past member of the DSEL program and of the Nebraska Pork Producers Pork Mentorship Program. I am also a TeamMates mentor and currently work at the Union Crossing on East Campus. I have also completed three internships over the past three summers in Galveston, TX, Quincy, IL, and Culpeper, VA.
