Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I had a hard time choosing the college that I wanted to attend, but what ultimately influenced me to choose the University of Nebraska - Lincoln is that everyone on campus made me feel like I belonged. This is still true now, all of the faculty, staff and students at the university, and especially within CASNR have really taken the time to get to know me and my interests and have welcomed me with open arms!
What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
My favorite thing about the University of Nebraska - Lincoln is the relationships I have made while being here. I have met so many amazing people during my time here. My friends truly make this campus feel like a home away from home, and the great faculty inspire me with their great instruction and incredible research!
What about diversity and inclusion is important to you when you think about your CASNR experience?
When I think about my CASNR experience, diversity and inclusion are incredibly important. I have had the opportunity to interact with both staff and students who come from all different backgrounds. Not only is this very eye-opening for me, but it also prepares me to go into the workforce with the skills to work with people from all walks of life.
Exposure to cultural differences is a huge part of college. What activity have you recently participated in that is different from what you are used to in your culture? This could be something you read, listened to, watched, taken or otherwise taken part in. What did you learn from this activity?
Last semester I was able to take ALEC 102. During this class I was required to complete a community service project, and for my project, I spent time volunteering at Belmont Community Center. While volunteering I spent time working with elementary-aged students from lower-income families. The students came from all different backgrounds and cultures. I played games, helped with homework and simply spent time talking to these students. I really enjoyed my time volunteering and got to learn a lot about each of the student's life, cultures, and traditions!
What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
My favorite class I have taken so far at the university is ASCI 100. During this class I learned a lot about the basics of the animal agriculture industry. I enjoyed the very hands-on lab, which allowed me to gain more familiarity with the parts of the industry I have not had much experience in yet. In addition to the content, my professor Bryan Reiling was an incredible teacher, and I really hope to take another class with him in the future!
What are your plans post-graduation?
While I don't know exactly what I want to do post-graduation, I do know that I want to work within animal health. Right now, my plans are to go on to veterinary school and pursue a career in large animal medicine. However, I am also interested in research, nutrition and pharmaceutical development.
What's life like outside of school?
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, as well as reading and watching movies. I am also a member of the Husker Equestrian Team. I really enjoy being a part of a team, traveling and being able to do what I love while I am in school!
What scholarships, if any, have you received?
I have been blessed to receive several scholarships during my time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. These include the David Distinguished Scholar, the Henry Karpf. Memorial Scholarship and the Wayne Phillips Scholarship.
