Meet Michael Weichman, a 2003 UNL animal science graduate who now is a self-employed rancher.

What is your current position? 

I am a self-employed rancher.  

How did your time in CASNR shape your career path? 

CASNR gave me opportunities to see and work in different ag sectors that probably wouldn’t have done had I not been there.  

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your job? 

The most fulfilling aspect of my job is managing the land and water in way to support fture generations and be sustainable at the same time.  

What activities were you involved in during your time at UNL? 

I was involved in Block and Bridle and the UNL Rodeo Team.  

What is your best memory of your time in CASNR? 

My best memory of my time in CASNR was meeting people that I am still in contact with today. 

How did CASNR prepare you for your life outside of work? 

CASNR prepared me for my life outside of work by being a part of something bigger and networking.  

What do you think IANR and CASNR contribute to Nebraska, the United States and the world? 

IANR and CASNR contribute by leading innovation, research and a campus to bring youth in from around the world.    

What is your one piece of advice for current CASNR students? 

Technology will be a driving force in years to come, but agriculture is still based upon principles that are centuries old.
