LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Poultry Industries announced its Poultry Person of the Year and a new member of its Hall of Fame last month.

William J. Claybaugh of Carroll was named to the hall of fame at the organization's annual convention and John Toney of Lincoln was named Poultry Person of the Year.

Also, Brett Kreifels of Lincoln received Nebraska Poultry Industries' Good Egg Award.

Nebraska Poultry Industries also elected officers for several organizations and announced scholarships.

Claybaugh was born in Henderson and lived in Ohio, Massachusetts and Iowa before returning to Nebraska, where his family operates a half million bird laying hen operation that produces about 10 million dozen eggs annually. Claybaugh has been a 32-year member of his county farm bureau and has participated in a number of industry organizations. He also raises registered polled Hereford cattle and operates a family feed mill and trucking operation.

Toney began working in his family's dairy as a child in Kansas. He went on to a 32-year career in food product development, working at Kraft Foods and Henningsen Foods. Before retiring from the latter in 2008, Toney was involved in many projects using UNL's Food Processing Center. He has worked the last few years at UNL as an animal technician.

Kreifels' poultry interest began as a child through his family's hatchery and 4-H. He produced a 4-H Poultry Showmanship video that's been used throughout the state and nation and was assistant superintendent for 4-H poultry at the 2012 Nebraska State Fair. Kreifels also has given presentations annually to the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute and has helped with youth tours of poultry facilities at UNL.
