Lincoln, Neb. —John Ruberson has been reappointed as head of the Entomology Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His reappointment is effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Ruberson joined UNL as Entomology Department head in 2019. During that time, he has led the department in strengthening undergraduate and graduate programs; worked to develop a strategic vision for the department; and helped foster a climate of collaboration among faculty, staff and students.

“John is an exemplary leader who embodies the UNL ideal that every person and every interaction matters,” said Mike Boehm, NU Vice President and Harlan Vice Chancellor for UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. “His leadership has strengthened the Entomology Department, and I’m delighted he will continue in the role of department head."

Prior to joining UNL, Ruberson spent seven years at Kansas State University and 18 years at the University of Georgia before that. His professional expertise is in biological control, integrated pest management and sustainable crop production.

Ruberson earned his bachelor’s degree in biology teaching and his master’s degree in zoology from Brigham Young University. He earned his doctorate in entomology from Cornell University in 1989, where he also served as a graduate research assistant and postdoctoral research associate.
