Lincoln, Neb. —
What is your background before coming to the University of Nebraska Lincoln?
My family and I moved to Lincoln 10 years ago! This is my second time working for UNL. I started working in Extension at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center, took a couple of years off to work for the state at the Volunteer Service Commission and missed UNL so much that I came back!
What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I am an Administrative Associate in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication.
What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
The office culture and the people drew me in. ALEC is such a warm and welcoming environment. Everyone has a collaborative spirit and wants to see each other succeed.
What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?
The students! I love seeing them come in and discover their passions and leave to change the world. Also, they teach me great slang that I use on my husband!
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Personally, my family is my greatest achievement. I love my small family and being a part of our community here in Lincoln. Professionally, I love advocating for people who think they do not have a voice and being involved in professional organizations that provide professional development to help others be their best. Success for me is helping others be successful.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I am a pretty open book. I am a military brat so was raised all over. I love going to museums to learn about the past.
What is your life like outside of work?
Life outside of work is so full! My husband, Darren (who is my college sweetheart), and I have been married for 23 years and love spending time teaching preschoolers at our church. They keep us young. We love raising our son, Joel (10), who is the spice our life needed. We spend a lot of time out at the baseball diamond cheering him on! We all recently got bikes, so our newest adventure is bike riding together!
