About Debra:

I grew up in Arizona but have lived in Nebraska since 1996. I have wonderful immediate and extended family, including a dachshund named Barney.

What is your position at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I am a financial associate in the AEM Business Center located in Entomology Hall working with and for some awesome individuals. I provide fiscal coordination for IANR Media, process accounts payables/receivables, purchase orders and requisitions, electronic ordering, internal billing and warrant requests.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I always thought it would be a privilege to serve those who assist others to learn and grow as individuals.

Sotero S. Salac, my family, father figure and friend, was a professor at UNL and I hoped to be blessed to work in the same environment he shared such fond memories of.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

Being surrounded by those seeking and providing education is inspiring. The diversity of UNL’s staff, faculty and students and our mission to value our differences is something I’m extremely proud to be a part of.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I was thrilled when I was offered the position to work at UNL; professionally that meant a great deal to me.

I was part of fundraising a new and improved shelter for The Connection Homeless Shelter in North Platte. The work I did at the shelter was such a blessing in my life.

I am most proud to hold the title of aunt/sister/friend and maternal figure to those who allow me to care for them. For me, life is about connection and serving others, which is why I love my role at UNL.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I love to swim, the ocean is my “happy place,” especially if shared with those I love. I’m a total "Bird Nerd and Butterfly Enthusiast” – a self-given title. I make my own lip balms and love creating with my essential oils.

What is your life like outside of work?

I am busy and happy. Two years ago my life looked very different and I love where the changes have led me. I love being outside (ideal temperature required with zero insects). I enjoy reading, cooking, and hanging out with friends and family. The simple things are most important to me.
