What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I am the communications specialist for the Department of Biological Systems Engineering and Plant Phenomics community. In my job I get to write articles, photograph events, publish newsletters, manage social media pages and much more! It’s a great department to work for with plenty of exciting research projects and events. I appreciate continually learning new things and strategizing about the best ways to share department happenings with the public.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I got my master’s in professional journalism from UNL in 2017. Lincoln first became a home to me during my time in the program. After working in newsrooms and other organizations outside the university system, I welcomed the opportunity to come back.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

The atmosphere of UNL is unlike anything else I’ve experienced! I’m constantly energized by the enthusiasm and innovative ideas of students, faculty and staff around me. I’ve also enjoyed discovering East Campus and am inspired by its beauty every day. I walk, run or bike the nearby MoPac trail at least a few times a week.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My fiancé Jared introduced me to cycling a few years ago, and conquering biking challenges together is probably what I’m most proud of. Last year we completed our first Gravel Worlds race, then biked to Beatrice and back over the course of two days through Bike Walk Nebraska’s Goldenride event. Both were truly unforgettable experiences! I’m always looking forward to the next bike adventure and would love to try events like Bike Ride Across Nebraska someday soon.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I have a twin who also works at the university! Everyone who meets us thinks we’re identical, but we just look similar. Liz and I are extremely close, and it’s wonderful living in the same city.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside the office, I love doing cooking projects with Jared, hanging out with friends, exploring the local food and craft beer scene, going on outdoor adventures, or just spending a quiet night in with my cat.
