About Haley Steinkuhler:
I am originally from the small town of Sterling, Nebraska which is roughly 35 miles southeast of Lincoln. Following high school, I ventured to the East Coast for college, graduating with bachelor's degree in business management from Belmont Abbey College located near Charlotte, NC. I spent several years in various marketing and event planning roles within the NASCAR industry until home began to call my name. As we all know, there is truly no place like Nebraska. Prior to arriving at UNL, I was a marketing coordinator at Cabela’s where I marketed, planned and hosted extreme hunting and fishing adventures across the world. It was an unforgettable experience and one that made me appreciate home even more!

What is your position at UNL?

I joined the IANR Media team in March serving as Media Specialist. My role is to help communicators tell the story of the remarkable work that is occurring every day within IANR. Whether it’s through a news release, email communication or social media I am here to help reach our target audience with the appropriate form of communication.

What drew you to UNL?

With several years of marketing and public relations experience, I really wanted to find a position that would allow me to use my skill set to make a difference in people’s lives. That’s exactly what I’ve found here within IANR Media. Every day I have the opportunity to shine light on incredible stories about CASNR, ARD and Nebraska Extension. As I meet more people across campus and across Nebraska, I hope these efforts can be expanded.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

Interacting with, and meeting new students is what I enjoy the most about working in an educational setting. Every student I have spoken with on East Campus is very ambitious and believes that the sky is the limit. It’s fun to see that excitement in their eye about the future.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I was able to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in three and a half years. While I enjoyed my experience as a student, I was very driven and eager to begin my professional career. I recognized that graduating a semester ahead of my peers could put me a step ahead when it came to employment opportunities, so I worked extremely hard to finish early.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I know more about NASCAR than anyone probably cares to know! I became immersed in the sport while living in North Carolina and then working in the industry for several years. I still try to keep up with it today although not to the level I used to.

What is your life like outside of work?
It’s a fun time in my life when I have the freedom and opportunity to enjoy a lot of hobbies and interests. I love spending time doing anything outdoors, including camping and going to the local farmers market. Traveling is something I also really enjoy. Coordinating a trip to catch an away Husker football game has become a tradition within my family and close group of friends. I also serve on the board of directors for Connected Forever, a nonprofit that supports families who have experienced premature birth or infant loss by providing resources, education and emotional support.
