Staff Spotlight: Jordan Slagle

Meet Jordan Slagle, an events and outreach manager for the Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agricultural and Natural Resources.

What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I am the Events and Outreach Manager for the Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. I plan internal and external events, on UNL’s campus, and statewide.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

Back when I was an undergrad, I did events for my university, and it was always something I enjoyed. Moving to Nebraska, it was a no-brainer for me that this was somewhere I wanted to end up. Working for a university is so unique, and the sense of community is what pulls me in every time.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

For me, it’s the people I get to collaborate with on a daily basis. I believe that you have to be a passionate person to work in this field, and I see it so clearly with everyone I interact with. It inspires me to want to work harder, and with all the resources we have, allows me to better myself professionally. I also just get to do so many fun things; no two days are the same!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Being where I am today is my greatest achievement. Overcoming life's hardships, exploring new avenues, and allowing myself to grow and change throughout the years have all been little successes that have led to me to this point.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

Most people don’t know that I am obsessed with paleontology! When I was in college, I wanted to learn about everything “dinosaur” and it’s still something I have a passion for today. If I wasn’t in events, I would have definitely gone to school to be a paleontologist and dig for fossils all day!

What is your life like outside of work?

My life outside of work most recently has included lots and lots of traveling, while crossing things off my travel bucket list, like seeing the Northern Lights for the first time! I spend lots of time trying new recipes, and working on hitting my reading goal of 150 books for the year. I’m also a huge Disney lover, and always have my next trip planned to the parks!
