Staff Spotlight: Liz Steinhour

Liz Steinhour

Meet Liz Steinhour, an academic advisor for Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, and Natural Resources and Environmental Economics.

Lincoln, Neb. —

What is your background before coming to the University of Nebraska Lincoln?

Having grown up near Hayes Center, Nebraska, I come from an agricultural background and have always had a love for education. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska – Omaha, and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Valdosta State University. Prior to my current position, my work has been with community colleges where I held various positions including librarian, student success coach, college advisor, and re-entry coach.

What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I am an academic advisor for Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, and Natural Resources and Environmental Economics.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I’ve lived in Nebraska my whole life, and Lincoln for the last 10 years, so the Huskers have always been a part of my life. After a long stint working in higher education at the community college level, I was ready for a new challenge. Coming to the University of Nebraska seemed like a natural fit that could provide me with new ways to grow my career.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

Primarily, I just really enjoy getting to know the students and seeing the variety of amazing things they do during and after college.  Educational settings have also offered me so many opportunities to branch out and grow my career in directions I never considered before.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is persevering through college and finding a career that I am passionate about. I really didn’t know what I wanted to be when I started school at 18. After attending three different colleges and changing my major many times, I feel so lucky to have landed in a position where my struggles to find my place in college have turned into experiences that can help me guide others.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I am a diehard San Antonio Spurs fan!

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with friends playing volleyball, both indoor and sand. I also love to travel and spend time with my rough collie, Poncho. This summer I started a flower garden and fear that gardening may become a new obsession for me!
