Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

Deciding to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln was a pretty easy decision for me. The quality education combined with the financial affordability was appealing. What I didn’t realize was that the University would become my second home. I liked that I could customize my academic experience to fit my career goals, and I appreciated that the faculty and staff took the time to get to know me as a student and not just as a number. As a land-grant institution, I was excited to be able to attend one of the best universities in the country focused on agricultural innovation, and from the moment I stepped on campus during my official visit, I knew this was the right place for me.

What is your favorite thing about University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

My favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the opportunities it provides and the relationships it fosters. A degree at UNL isn’t just a piece of paper, it’s a stepping stone to anywhere you want to go. I love that I have the ability to take charge of my education and make it meaningful to me and what I want to do. The people I have interacted with represent diverse ways of thinking that challenge me as a student and as an individual, pushing me towards continual improvement and growth. I love cheering on my fellow Huskers, knowing most of the people I walk past on campus, and the welcoming, inclusive culture that really makes UNL home. It sounds cliché to say, but there really is no place like Nebraska.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

I have had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, each with their own unique ideas and values. As an ambassador for the College, I have the chance to meet students from across the country and around the world. I get to know their stories and where they want to go, allowing me to expand my education beyond the borders of this campus and this state. The diversity and inclusive excellence displayed through all aspects of the CASNR community encourages me to think differently, take risks and build partnerships to solve global challenges.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

My favorite class I’ve taken so far has been HORT 261: Floral Design 1. Although it wasn’t related to my major, I enjoyed the challenge of learning something brand new and the encouragement to be creative and take risks. Throughout the semester, I got to design floral arrangements, many of which were gifted to people close to me. I realized by taking this class that I wanted my future career and the rest of my life to have the opportunity for creativity and the challenge of continual learning.

What are your plans post-graduation?

My plans post-graduation are currently undecided. I plan to seek full time employment in an agricultural field where I have the opportunity to impact people and be creative. Eventually, I will pursue a master’s degree or law degree to further my education.

What’s life like outside of school?

Life outside of school is full of adventure for me. The opportunities I’ve taken part in have allowed me to enhance my education beyond the traditional academic setting. I have been involved in several organizations, such as Agriculture Future of America and Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council, where I can practice what I’ve been learning in the classroom as well as develop personal and professional skills that are applicable to many areas of my life. I love adventures, especially if they include the mountains. I spend my free time reading, baking, playing piano, working on creative projects, hanging out with my family and taking naps. I strive to add value to my life in the experiences and relationships I have.
