Catie Finkenbiner, a graduate student in UNL's School of Natural Resources, has been selected to receive a $25,000 Monsanto Graduate Student Scholarship. The company's scholarship program recognizes high-achieving, underrepresented students pursuing degrees in agriculture and STEM-related fields.

Why did you decide to come to UNL?
I attended UNL for my undergrad (B.S. in Water Science). Last year, I completed a UCARE with my advisor Trenton Franz and decided I would like to continue working and studying under him for my masters degree. I became interested in his research because I think water management in agricultural systems is extremely important.

What is your favorite thing about UNL?
My favorite thing about UNL has been the research opportunities it has provided me.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
My favorite class at UNL during my undergrad was limnology. I really enjoyed the course concepts and labs. Many of the topics covered in the course will be beneficial to future research.

What are your plans post-graduation?
After graduating, I plan on possibly pursuing a Ph.D. However, I do not have any concrete plans yet and I am keeping my options open.

What's life like outside of school?
Outside of school, I enjoy biking, running and hanging out with friends. I love traveling and am always up for an adventure.
