Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I always knew I was going to be a Husker, but I decided to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln because of the atmosphere of East Campus. I enjoyed the small town feel and how welcoming everyone was. Agriculture has always been a huge part of my life, and I loved getting to pursue that passion through CASNR.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

My favorite thing about the University is the community of students, staff and faculty. I have had a multitude of professors who are extremely dedicated to the success of their students. While here, I’ve had the opportunity to be a student worker in the CASNR Dean’s office and a teaching assistant for the Agronomy & Horticulture Department. Through classes and my campus jobs, I’ve met many people who have greatly influenced my life for the better. This community of people has not only prepared me for my future career but for my entire life ahead.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

While my academics have taught me so much, I’ve learned even more from the people around me. I’ve had the opportunity to meet students from many different states, countries, and backgrounds. The variety of knowledge and experiences I’ve gained from others has maximized my own growth here at CASNR.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

The ALEC Department and Agronomy & Horticulture Department are so near and dear to my heart but when it comes down to it soil was my jam. One of the best classes I took was soil evaluation with Dr. Turk and Dr. Young. I loved the hands-on learning experience of looking at soil profiles in the field. I also enjoyed getting to compete on UNL’s Soil Judging Team during this class at the Regional Competition!

What are your plans post-graduation?

After graduation, I will serve as the agriculture education teacher and FFA Advisor at Madison Public Schools in Madison, NE. I’m excited for this new adventure and can’t wait to be a part of the Madison community.

What’s life like outside of school?

During college, I spent a good amount of time involved in different clubs and organizations. I was highly involved in the Sigma Alpha Sorority, UNL FFA Alumni Club, and a Campus Ministry called Cru. During the summer between my sophomore and junior year I had the opportunity to travel to Juneau, AK thanks to Cru. That was one of my favorite college experiences and it sparked my love for road trips. Outside of school, I’d spend time in Bertrand, NE helping on the family farm, I enjoyed exploring Lincoln, and spent a good chunk of time cooking/baking for my friends and co-workers.
