Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?
UNL offers great scholarships to out of state students, which was a big factor for me. I also really enjoyed UNL’s smaller campus compared to other Big Ten universities I had visited.
What is your favorite thing about the university?
I love the atmosphere on campus, especially during game days! People are always passionate and friendly around the university. There are so many opportunities and options available on campus, so everyone has a chance to find something they are excited about.
What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
My favorite class that I’ve taken was a BIOS 497 special topics course called Evolution of Human Health and Disease. It was a smaller, seminar-type course, which is my favorite. I love discussion-based courses because I learn more listening to other people’s perspectives and opinions. I think there is less pressure to quickly learn information in order to succeed on exams, and more time to thoroughly learn and understand the material. I learned a lot about different diseases and why or how they may have originated. It was a great way to combine scientific information I’ve learned in many of my courses with my passion for healthcare!
What are your plans post-graduation?
I will be beginning physician assistant school at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse starting at the end of May! I will miss UNL and all the wonderful people I’ve met here, but I’m excited to be closer to home and for all the opportunities to come.
What's life like outside school?
Outside of my classes I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in a variety of activities. I’ve been on the executive board for some clubs on campus, been a TA for two courses, and done science literacy research on East Campus. Off campus, you can usually find me in a coffee shop downtown reading a book or on the ice playing for the Women’s Club Hockey team!
