Lincoln, Neb. — As Veteran’s Day approaches, I would like to express my gratitude to the veterans, as well as those currently serving, and family members of service men and women, who are part of our IANR community.

I am proud to be part of an institution that supports those who choose to serve wearing the cloth of our country. This support is underscored by a recent designation of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as one of the top 25 schools for veterans. The Military Times ranked Nebraska 22nd on its list of 325 colleges and universities and first in the Big Ten. UNL’s Miliary and Veteran Success Center, established in 2015, is dedicated to helping military dependents, veterans, active duty, guard, and reserve students accomplish their academic goals. This center certainly played a role in UNL receiving this designation.

Another factor in this designation is our people. We genuinely believe here that every person and every interaction matters, and living by that sentiment has fostered a climate of inclusion for students from all backgrounds, including those who have or are serving.

As a Navy veteran,  this video resonated with me.  I encourage you to watch it, as it might help you connect with a veteran or service member in your life.

Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you for your service.
