Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and what drew you to the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars Program?

I knew I wanted to pursue a career within the beef industry, and there was no better place to do that than the Beef State! When I found out about the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars program, it sounded like a great fit to be surrounded by like-minded and motivated people!

What has been your favorite experience in the Beef Scholars program so far?

My favorite experience was probably doing our industry tours, both the small group Nebraska tours and the big class tour to Denver, Colorado.

How has the Beef Scholars program helped you prepare for a career in the beef industry?

Without the Beef Scholars program, I would have missed out on a ton of opportunities. Getting an exclusive tour at up-and-coming packing plants or learning from other producers in the industry that I wouldn't have met otherwise is always beneficial.

What has been your favorite class or learning opportunity connected to beef, and why?

My favorite class was the Practicum class. We did a deep dive into each section of the beef industry that we may not do in other classes or have the background in. This class is where I learned the most.

Can you share a memorable activity, trip, or connection from Beef Scholars (e.g., tours, industry visits, networking)?

I met Lee Leachman when I was in high school, and he is the one who encouraged me to come to UNL. On our big group tour to Denver, Colorado, one of our stops was to Leachman Cattle. It felt like a full-circle moment.

What are your plans post-graduation, and how do you see the Beef Scholars program playing a role in your future?

I plan to return to my family's cow-calf operation while pursuing an entrepreneurial endeavor. The Beef Scholars program gave me new perspectives that I can take back home to improve our operation.

Outside of school and Beef Scholars, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy traveling and seeing new places. I like to get outside and go on hikes, if it's with friends, that's even better.

What scholarships or support have you received that have helped you during your time at UNL?

I have been fortunate enough to receive the Commercial Cattlemen Scholarship from the Angus Foundation, Engler Entrepreneurship Scholarships, along with various scholarships from Nebraska Cattlemen and UNL Animal Science.
