Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and what drew you to the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars Program?

Growing up, there was never a doubt in my mind that I would attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During my first semester at UNL, I began looking for opportunities that would benefit me in my future career. After talking with my academic advisor and previous members of the beef scholars program, I knew that this program would benefit me the most and help me excel in the beef industry.

What has been your favorite experience in the Beef Scholars program so far?

Being able to meet and talk to many great leaders within the industry from around Nebraska and the nation.

How has the Beef Scholars program helped you prepare for a career in the beef industry?

The program has given me a great view of the beef industry as a whole through learning about each sector and giving us the opportunity to meet and learn from people in each part.

What has been your favorite class or learning opportunity connected to beef, and why?

My favorite Beef Scholars class has been ASCI 381 because we went into extreme detail, learning, and diagramming different situations within the beef industry. This has helped me to better understand the decisions required by cattlemen to be successful.

Can you share a memorable activity, trip, or connection from Beef Scholars (e.g., tours, industry visits, networking)?

The industry study tour was a great way to learn and make connections across various sectors in the industry.

What are your plans post-graduation, and how do you see the Beef Scholars program playing a role in your future?

I plan to attend vet school then return to Nebraska to practice large animal veterinary medicine and continue my family’s ranch. The program has given me countless connections within the industry and important knowledge to make beneficial choices for my own operation.

“I knew that this program would benefit me the most and help me excel in the beef industry.”

Outside of school and Beef Scholars, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy being a part of animal science clubs such as Block and Bridle and competing on various animal science teams.

What scholarships or support have you received that have helped you during your time at UNL?

I have received various scholarships from CASNR, Block and Bridle, Nebraska cattlemen, Lexington Community Foundation, United Methodist Church, reagents scholarship, and the 4-H Foundation.
