Why did you choose to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and what drew you to your major(s)?
I chose to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln mainly because I received a scholarship that was only valid at in-state colleges. That financial support made a big difference in my decision. I had also earned so many college credits in high school that a two-year school was not really an option. I needed a university where I could keep moving forward. I chose Agricultural Education as my major because I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I wanted to stay connected to the agriculture industry. Agriculture has shaped me into the person I am today. I have learned so much through my experiences, and I want to give back to the industry that has given me so much. Growing up around livestock, raising my own show lamb herd, and being deeply involved in FFA truly changed my life and led me to where I am now.
What’s your favorite part about being a student at UNL or on East Campus?
My favorite part about being a student at UNL, especially on East Campus, is the strong sense of community. It feels more relaxed and close-knit compared to City Campus, and I love how easy it is to run into familiar faces. I also enjoy being surrounded by people who share similar interests. There are so many hands-on learning opportunities, and it is easy to find jobs that relate to your field and give you real-world experience.
Have you had any internships or job experiences during college? If so, tell us about one and what you learned.
My first year of college I worked in the Animal Science Building under Dr. White. That experience taught me a lot about responsibility and time management since I had to balance work with classes and other activities. I also got to see firsthand how research is conducted.
Tell us about a class, club, organization, or hands-on experience at UNL that has made a big impact on you.
Being involved in Block and Bridle, FFA Alumni, and my sorority Sigma Alpha has made a big impact on me at UNL. Block andBridle has given me hands-on experience planning shows and working with livestock, which has helped me grow as a leader and organizer. Staying connected through FFA Alumni has allowed me to give back to an organization that shaped me in high school while building connections with other ag leaders. Sigma Alpha has also been an important part of my college experience because it has pushed me to grow personally while surrounding me with women who support and challenge me. Altogether, these organizations have really shaped my college journey and the kind of ag teacher I hope to become.
What do you enjoy doing outside of class (hobbies, organizations, favorite ways to spend free time)?
Outside of classes, I am usually spending time with friends or working on ways to better myself and my business. I enjoy staying competitive through sports, and I love working with livestock, especially when I get to be back home on the farm with my family.
