Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and what drew you to the Krutsinger Beef Industry Scholars Program?

I came to the University of Nebraska because it had everything I was looking for and was the perfect distance from home. I was interested in the Krustinger Beef Industry Scholars program because of the hands-on experience it entailed, as well as many opportunities to connect and learn from industry professionals.

What has been your favorite experience in the Beef Scholars program so far?

My favorite experience in the Beef Scholars program has been the beef industry tour. I was amazing to see so many different sides of the industry with people who are equally as interested in the future of beef production.

How has the Beef Scholars program helped you prepare for a career in the beef industry?

The Beef Scholars program has helped me prepare for a career in the industry by connecting me with so many opportunities. We have connected with professionals in all areas of the industry, and they have connected us with internship opportunities that will provide invaluable experience when we enter the workforce.

What has been your favorite class or learning opportunity connected to beef, and why?

My favorite class so far has been ASCI 457, which is Beef Feedlot Management. I am interested in Ruminant nutrition, and I love learning about how we can increase the efficiency of feeding cattle to produce more beef with less inputs.

Can you share a memorable activity, trip, or connection from Beef Scholars (e.g., tours, industry visits, networking)?

I think the most memorable activity of the Beef Scholars tour was when we were touring the JBS packing plant in Greeley, Colorado. It was such a rare, up-close experience that really opens your eyes to the final step before beef hits store shelves.

What are your plans post-graduation, and how do you see the Beef Scholars program playing a role in your future?

After graduation in May, I plan to pursue a master's in Ruminant Nutrition. I am excited to gain more research experience and see where this road takes me. I think the Beef Scholars program will influence my future due to the connections I have made through the program. This will be beneficial when looking for job opportunities in the future.

Outside of school and Beef Scholars, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time, I love spending time traveling and hanging out with my friends. I try to spend as much time as possible with them before we graduate and are taken separate ways with internships and other responsibilities.

What scholarships or support have you received that have helped you during your time at UNL?

I have been lucky enough to receive a Regents Scholarship from UNL as well as several other scholarships through the Animal Science department. These scholarships have made it possible for me to pursue two degrees. I am forever grateful for the opportunities they have given me to advance my education with less financial stress.
