Lincoln, Neb. — The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has announced the reappointment of Bertrand Clarke as head of the Department of Statistics for a five-year term.

The action comes following a planned five-year review of the leader. Clarke also holds the rank of professor in the department. He has been in his current position at Nebraska since 2013.

The university created the Department of Statistics in July 2003 by merging the Department of Biometry in IANR and the statistics division of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Arts and Sciences. In July 2018, IANR assumed full administrative support for the Department.

“Dr. Clarke has shown great leadership of the Department of Statistics through a period of transition,” said Ron Yoder, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for IANR. “The work of the Department is vitally important to the cutting-edge research, education and outreach efforts of IANR and Bert has played a key role in this integration.”

Faculty hires led by Clarke have greatly expanded the ability of the department to meet the demand for educational, research and consultation programing in statistics. In addition, he has worked with faculty to revise graduate curriculum to reflect the reality of modern practice in the field. Clarke is currently leading the faculty in the development of an undergraduate program in statistics.
