About Laura

I am a wife, mother, Christian, friend and educator.  My family lives outside of Sidney where my husband farms with his family. We enjoy raising our two children, ages 7 and 4, in the agriculture industry. I have lived in Cheyenne County my entire life, as I grew up on a farm and ranch here too!

I attended college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years and then transferred to Wayne State College where I completed my bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduating I returned to the family farm and worked until I started my first career in inventory and merchandising at Cabela’s!  I had a wonderful 7-year career there with several roles that helped grow and expand my business knowledge. While working at Cabela’s, I also completed my master’s degree in business administration through Wayne State College. Next, I started teaching business class for Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, before taking a position with Nebraska Extension!

What is your position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I am the 4-H Extension Educator for Cheyenne and Deuel Counties in the Panhandle! I cover all types of programming, but my favorite is definitely ag literacy and any type of business or entrepreneurship school enrichment programs.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I loved the experience that I had in 4-H when I was growing up in Cheyenne County, and when the position came open I was just naturally drawn to it! I want to be able to continue offering the high quality programs that I was able to receive as a youth here!

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

I love working with youth and helping them find their spark within 4-H and school enrichment! I am able to offer some really fun, hands-on lessons and it is awesome to see the excitement our youth have while learning something new.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Personally, I feel that my greatest achievement was completing my master’s degree while working full time at Cabela’s. I am truly blessed to have a supportive family and an employer that encouraged me to further my education.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

Most people probably didn’t realize that I am originally from Cheyenne County! I love rural western Nebraska and all of the amazing people that live here! I can’t imagine a better place to live, work, and raise my family.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work my family enjoys many things outdoors!  We would love to spend more time camping, fishing, and hunting.  I also enjoy traveling, which usually includes visiting family or going on a new fishing adventure!
