About Yeyin:

I was originally from Nanjing, China. I came to the U.S. for my graduate studies in 2007 and got both my master’s and Ph.D. in biosystem and agricultural engineering from Oklahoma State University. Prior to joining UNL, I was working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Citrus Research and Education Center at the University of Florida and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M University.

What is your position at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I am currently an assistant professor and agricultural information system specialist in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering. My research and extension interests are to make use of sensing and information technology to improve the efficiency, quality and sustainability of agricultural production.

What drew you to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

The University of Nebraska has one of the best agricultural engineering programs in the nation. The position of agricultural information system aligns with my background and interests perfectly.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

I currently have a research and extension appointment. I really enjoy delivering research findings to growers and at the same time knowing the issues and what they are interested in that I may contribute to solving them by conducting relevant research.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I survived the first year working at UNL! Nothing special but everything is getting started and I hope it will keep running on the right track.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I am a dance hobbyist. I have never had any systematic training, but like following videos to practice.

What is your life like outside of work?

I enjoy living in Lincoln with my husband and a baby expected later this year. Though we do not have much free time now, whenever we have some, we love cooking and enjoying the food together, and discovering places we’ve never been to in the city and the state.
